Although it looks neat on paper, the program is not accessible to everyone. Applicants must meet a certain set of criteria which include proof of an annual salary of at least $ 100,000 for a candidate, or a minimum of $ 150,000 for a candidate with a single dependent, or 168 000 USD for a candidate with two dependents. Minimum wage requirements increase as more dependents are added.

Those applying for the visa must also provide proof of health insurance coverage and present a non-refundable deposit of at least $ 1,469.

Successful applicants can then choose to live on one of the three islands that make up the British Overseas Territory. The Miami-style Grand Cayman is the most developed of the islands and is known for its high-quality accommodations, upscale restaurants, and white-sand Seven Mile Beach.

Even though the Caymans have a huge multinational community, there is a lot of local culture and affordable options in the Bodden Town and East End neighborhoods of Grand Cayman and across the island of Cayman Brac. The islands are also renowned for their marine and jungle wildlife, with many beautiful hiking trails and nature reserves, especially on Little Cayman, the smallest of the islands.

The program was supposed to be launched in 2020 in the form of a two-year visa, but conditions have since been revised for 90 days in 2022. The Cayman Islands are open to vaccinated tourists but testing requirements are in place for de many visitors. Arrivals from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, for example, must take a COVID-19 test before departure, then undergo a rapid antigen test on the second, five and ten days of their stay. Omicron cases are increasing rapidly in the Cayman Islands and some mitigating measures are in place, such as limits on gatherings and the closing of bars at midnight.

If you are looking for a change of scenery while working remotely for the foreseeable future, you can apply for the GCCP visa here.
