What you need to know about Casa Nomad, the new Tulum-inspired restaurant in MKT Heights

SPACE

The Silver Deck Lounge, designed by Coeval of Dallas, seats 28 and has a vacation vibe with a rope awning, blue tile walls, and lush tropical plants. Tulum, Mexico, was the inspiration for the design.

THE FOOD

Executive Chef Vincent Forchelli’s “Mayan-inspired” menu features crudo tuna tostadas, chicharrones served with spicy cream, ceviche, a Tajin melon salad, tamales (pork or chicken with green chili) and “Ribs” with cotija, pickled onion and buttercream. Larger dishes include the chickpea and chorizo cassoulet; skirt steak with mushroom agridulce and corn tortillas; bone marrow; and market fish with salsa verde and adobo sauce. There are also tacos: grilled fish, carnitas and braised chicken.

A few wines by the glass and by the bottle, beer and a tequila and mezcal menu. The cocktail list includes creative cocktails such as Jungle Disco (tequila reposado, pineapple, serrano chili syrup and carrot juice), Te Amo (mezcal, tequila reposado, lime, cordial de Cayenne, agave, pineapple and Topo Chico) and Tuluminati (tequila reposado), dry Curacao, lime, agave and dragon fruit syrup).

WORD

“Tulum has long been one of our favorite travel destinations,” Keller said. “With Casa Nomad, we wanted to bring a slice of Tulum to Houston so that Houstonians could experience in their own backyards the bohemian vibe that makes Tulum such a special place to us.

ONE MORE THING
