TAT’s innovation approach to digital tourism is based on 3 key factors.

First, TAT focuses on domestic Thai tourists by sharing knowledge and building trust on preparing for Thai digital tourism. A “Durian Farm Virtual Tour” platform was recently launched to allow tourists to visit a farm in the virtual world and buy real fruits to deliver to them. Similar projects are underway to create personalized experiences in the Metaverse virtual world and pave the way for the use of cryptocurrency. Additionally, TAT plans to use a non-fungible token (NFT) to promote Thai tourism through digital art starting with local wisdom products; such as paintings, graphics, videos and music.

Secondly, still focusing on raising awareness of Thailand’s digital tourism among domestic Thai tourists, TAT has launched a “Thailand Holideals” project on holidays.tourismthailand.orgoffering special tourism packages, privileges and tourism promotions from tourism businesses across the country that can be purchased using a digital token, making it the first time in Thailand that a digital token can be used for tourism products and services.

Third, TAT promotes Thailand as a remote worker-friendly destination with a focus on a new generation of international travelers, including digital natives, Gen Z and digital nomads. This is in response to a growing trend in light of the coronavirus pandemic of people working remotely and enjoying vacations. This group of travelers are turning to cryptocurrency payments, and among several ongoing projects, a TAT NFT will be introduced to boost international awareness of local Thai handicrafts.
