FAN EXPO Denver – nerd paradise that takes over the tasks of organizing conventions where Denver Comic Con and Pop Culture Con left off – will debut in Mile High City with a spooky Special edition from October 29 to 31. This is perhaps only 75% of the size of the traditionally massive experience of years past, as well as what organizers are planning for 2022, but it still leaves plenty of room for some welcome awesomeness from the fan community after the pandemic.

“We have all stayed inside, supported our health heroes and done our part to keep our communities safe, and now we are delighted to finally find each other, stronger than ever,” writes Adam Kullberg, interim executive director. from the pop culture class. “FAN EXPO Denver: SPECIAL EDITION will give our community a chance to come together and celebrate creativity and pop culture in a way we haven’t been able to do in a while. We’re excited to be able to bring that connection back to Denver this October. “

FAN EXPO is the largest comic book producer in North America and hosts annual conventions in Canada and the United States, from Boston to Orlando to Dallas. During the 2020 downtime, he partnered with Pop Culture Classroom to work on bringing the Denver convention back better and ultimately bigger than ever.

We caught up with Andrew Moyes, Vice President of Fan Expo Headquarters, to ask what fans can expect for this upcoming Halloween at the Colorado Convention Center – other than double the excuse to dress up.

Word from the West: What was the idea behind creating a smaller version of the traditional convention, since this is FAN EXPO’s first foray into the Denver fandom?

Andrew Moyes: FAN EXPO Denver: SPECIAL EDITION fulfills a promise we made to fans to seek every opportunity to produce something in 2021, before fully resuming our regular schedule in 2022 and beyond. We are delighted that this has happened; this could not have happened without the contribution and support of the local fan community and our site partners. Fandom is finally returning to Denver. We cannot wait.

What differences will fans see on the floor itself, both due to the downsizing and being FAN EXPO?

Fans can expect everything they know and love about the series, just a little smaller. Hopefully they see the benefits of both our collaboration with the local Denver team and the breadth of our national partnerships to bring in an exciting roster of guests and exhibitors.

Speaking of guests, any headliners that you would like to announce for this month of October?

Our first guest has just been revealed: William Shatner, who recently celebrated his ninetieth birthday. Who better to get us out of the abyss than the captain himself? And we certainly couldn’t miss the opportunity to help him celebrate this pivotal year.

What can we expect from the event that will be held over the Halloween weekend?

Hopefully Halloween weekend makes what is already a burst of creativity even more exciting. Personally, I can’t wait to see the new trends in cosplay – there have been so many awesome new shows and characters revealed in 2020 and 2021. And maybe this break gave cosplayers a chance to add to their creations. . Our fans always wow me with their creativity, and I’m so excited to see what Denver will bring!
