3,000 digital nomad visa applications for Greece submitted

Greece has received nearly 3,000 digital nomad visa applications, showing strong interest in the recently launched process, according to Businessdaily.gr.

Based on figures from the Ministry of Migration seen by the site, 1,693 requests have been approved and 1,225 other requests pending.

Over the summer, Greece joined the race by introducing a visa that allows non-EU foreign nationals to live and work in the country for up to two years provided they have a foreign employer and earn at least 3,500 euros per month. Higher income is needed if dependent family members are also involved.

The investments that may result from an influx of digital nomads to Greece are far-reaching, with an emphasis on the real estate sector because housing is among the first needs to be met.

According to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, if Greece manages to attract 100,000 digital nomads in one year, and they stay in the country for 6 months, the benefit to the economy could reach 1.6 billion euros per year. .

Greece’s rules for digital nomad visa have elicited mixed reactions, with some calling the minimum income of 3,500 euros too high.

Others don’t see this as an obstacle, but most agree that more work needs to be done to improve the Greek Internet, one of the slowest and most expensive in Europe.

EY Greece has provided some helpful advice on the more technical details related to the process in the questions and answers listed below which can also be accessible here.
